Maimun Palace is a Magnificent Imperial Palace

North Sumatra has Maimun Palace is a magnificent imperial palace Deli which is one of the icons of the city of Medan. The palace is located in Jalan Brigadier General Katamso, District of Medan Maimun.


Maimun Palace sometimes also called the Palace of Putri Hijau which is the palace of the kingdom of greatness Deli. The palace is dominated by yellow, the color of the greatness of the Malay kingdom.


Designed by an Italian architect who was built by Sultan Deli, Sultan Mahmud Al Rashid Perkasa Alamsyah, He is the eldest son of Sultan Mahmud Alam Perkasa founder of the city of Medan. Construction of the palace began on August 26, 1888, and completed on 18 May 1891.


The palace has an area of 2,772 square meters and consists of 30 rooms consists of two floors and has 3 parts. The section covers the main building, building the right wing and the left wing of the building. Maimun Palace building facing north and on the front side there is a building of Masjid Al-Mashun or better known as the Great Mosque of Medan.

Since 1946, the palace was inhabited by the heirs of the Sultanate of Deli. In certain times of the palace is often held traditional Malay musical performances. Usually these performances in celebration in order to enliven the joy of weddings or other events. Additionally, two times a year, the Sultan of Deli usually hold the event silatuhrahmi between large family palace. On every Friday night; at the sultan's family held a traditional rewatib (sort wiridan family).

Maimun Palace is now a destination for History. This is not only because of old age but yet unique interior design elements bequeath Malay culture combined with the Islamic Culture, Spain, India, and Italy.
For the visitors who come to the Palace Maimun, they could still see the collections on display in the meeting room as the sultan's family photos, home furnishings Netherlands Ancient and various types of weapons. When the army was about to enter the palace Aceh kidnapped Putri Hijau, a sudden miracle, Mambang Khayali suddenly turned into a cannon and shot indiscriminately without stopping. Due to continuously fired a bullet towards the troops in Aceh, the cannon is split in two. The front was found in the area Surbakti, in the Karo highlands, near Kabanjahe. While the rear was thrown to Labuhan Deli, then transferred to the page Maimun Palace.
